Are these songs familiar? How about you? What is your favorite Christmas song?
Last night, while I was riding a jeepney, a little boy had taken the jeepney I was into and he sang a very popular Christmas song “ Pasko na Naman” (one of my favorites). He was untidy and I think he is 10 years old. Very young, right? But he sings pretty great. As I closed my eyes while listening to his song, I said to myself that Philippines is a very unique country when this kind of season comes because where do you find small children (or even a muscled-six pack men) sing carol songs in the middle of the street or in every public transportation? I agree with Department of Tourism when they launched the Philippines’ slogan “It’s more fun in the Philippines” because it really shows how Filipinos adapt a total turn of their lives and happiness comes out naturally.
Every “BER” month, Christmas preparation and celebration starts on this period. You can feel the cool- breeze-kind-of feeling and all people have the same reaction about this term. During the first month of “BER” month, houses are already decorated with sparkling Christmas lights and different sizes and shapes of Christmas lanterns. Isn’t it beautiful? I am just wondering if other countries do like this.
And here’s another thing. Malls are starting to sell all kinds of Christmas decoration stuffs and on every street the government is also putting up Christmas trees and embellishment paraphernalia. Some families also are laying the groundwork for activities of the upcoming Christmas parties and gatherings.
The spirit of this season marks the beginning of endless joy and fun. It also gives way to new drive of making things happen. Though some Filipinos are outside of the country, they always seem to miss Filipino culture and tradition because that’s what they have grown up to and wherever they go, one thing is for sure. They will always go back to the place they call “HOME”.
At last, my name is printed in the guidepost newsletter and I am beginning to get interested writing any article to this newsletter.
